ELCA’s “Global Links” e-news remarkable for depth and breadth

Global Links,” ELCA Global Mission’s monthly newsletter about that church’s work around the world is remarkable for the diversity of ministry it highlights and for the many opportunities it offers for individuals and congregations to engage in world mission.  Especially heartening is the fact that the church’s missionaries are featured in various ways.  Beyond missionaries, the news roundup includes particular initiatives in various parts of the world, Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson’s activities, conferences and consultations for the church’s membership, and particular missional placements around the world that need filling.

“Global Links” is available online.  You can subscribe there to receive it by e-mail and to follow it on Facebook and Twitter.

This is a format that other churches would do well to emulate.  As previously noted in this blog, the Presbyterian Church (USA) has “Mission Yearbook,” a daily e-mailing of one item that is also worth subscribing to.  Obviously, coordinating such efforts takes staff expertise and time, which costs money – something the Episcopal Church, for instance, is especially strapped for these days.  On the other hand, the issue may equally be one of priorities, for PC(USA) is about the same size as ECUSA.
